Vanessa Robinson, Head of HR Practice Development, CIPD
Vanessa has oversight responsibility for all of the research undertaken by the CIPD. In addition she leads on the research in areas including the changing shape of the HR function, and HR’s role in talent management and change management.
The impacts of technology on effective people management, and in particular the way new social technologies can contribute to higher organisational performance continue to be areas of research interest.
Catherine Griffiths, HR Business Partner – Organisation Strategy & Service Design, Birmingham City Council
Catherine has over 15 years public sector experience, the majority of this spent with Birmingham City Council. She spent 4 years as Head of HR and 5 years as a manager in the council’s commercial department before moving into a corporate role developing the corporate strategy for HR.
She led the approach on designing the future operating model for HR.
Catherine is a fellow member of the CIPD, has a business degree from Aston Business School and an MSC in change management.
Steffen Lichtenberger, Director for Business Development SAP HCM for EMEA & India Region, SAP
Steffen Lichtenberger is Director for Business Development SAP HCM for EMEA & India Region.
Within the regional organization he is responsible for the SAP HCM go-to-market strategy as well as the execution of various regional demand generation programs. Steffen has rejoined SAP in 2009 and has more than 15 years of expertise in the SAP HCM business.
Before he had worked as Managing Director for NorthgateArinso Switzerland as well as for Ciber. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from the University of Mannheim and lives in Zurich (Switzerland).
Kim Peckover, HR Systems Manager, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust
Despite having such a youthful appearance Kim is a seasoned IT professional with a time served career expanding across several industries. These include banking and engineering, software facilities and education.
The latter opportunity significantly involved a 2 year contract in the Sultanate of Oman to set up the Computer Centre at then brand new University and Teaching Hospital (1986-88).
Returning to UK, Kim spent the next 14 years working for IBM UK supporting the Profs/Office Vision office system, managing many IT projects including pan-EMEA machine room consolidations, and delivering Performance, Capacity and Hardware Facilities Management until 2002.
Kim moved to SUHT in late 2002 to introduce IT into the management of Juniors Doctors Working Hours, subsequently becoming the Project Manager of the very successful SUHT implementation of the NHS national NHS Electronic Staff Record (ESR) HR and payroll system.
Now the SUHT HR Systems Manager, Kim participates nationally to help steer the strategic direction of ESR, delivers the SUHT eHR Strategy programme, and still manages the project to further exploit and expand ESR function by implementing Self Service across the 8000 strong employee organisation with a challenge of paper-light HR.
Kim attributes her personal growth and business successes to making good career opportunities and choices, and more importantly the support, understanding and love of a good cat – well several actually.
Alfredo Thomson, eRostering Project Manager, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust
Alfredo has a Master’s Degree International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management from the London School of Economics. He is trained in PROSCI Change Management Methodology and joined Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008 after working for four years in the Caribbean on two major private and public sector HR transformation projects.
In his current role he has helped the organisation to identify more than £500K potential savings and is currently passionately working to ensure that the benefits are released.
Clinton Wingrove, EVP and Principal Consultant, Pilat HR Solutions
Clinton Wingrove is the EVP and Principal Consultant at Pilat HR Solutions, a recognized thought and market leader of talent management and provider of highly tailored solutions.
Clinton’s personal passion is working with organizations to improve individual, unit and enterprise performance through the holistic design of processes, metrics and supporting IT – which when combined, enable individuals to realize their true potential.

Mark White, Business Development Director, Transversal
Mark White is the Business Development Director at Transversal; a company that provides self service solutions to customers like The BBC iPlayer, Royal Mail and Aviva.
A computer science graduate, Mark has always been interested in ways that people use technology to self serve. Throughout the growth of internet shopping and banking he’s been at the forefront helping companies implement on line help solutions that automatically answer customer questions. He most recently helped Marks and Spencer implement a new intuitive on line help service.

Paul Harrison, Former VP of Global HR Shared Services and Outsourcing, Sun Microsystems
Paul Harrison was VP of HR Global Shared Services and Outsourcing at Sun Microsystems. He was responsible for HR operations and service delivery across 50 countries and the management of one of the most extensive global HR outsourcing contracts in the industry.
Paul has had a number of positions in Sun including HR Director, EMEA and international assignments in the US and Asia. Previous to Sun, Paul held senior HR positions at GE and Unisys. He has a degree in Economics from Bristol University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development.
He lives in Hampshire with his wife and enjoys country walking and many sporting activities such as Tennis, Football and Cricket.
Sarah Hirst, Global Workforce & Succession Planning Manager, Northamptonshire Police
Sarah has 10 years HR management experience with Northamptonshire Police and was responsible for implementing Workforce Planning within the Force ahead of many other forces ‘seeing the light’.
In recent years this had led to her being cited as lending considerable expertise to other Forces now seeking to develop their Workforce Planning Solutions. Sarah is currently the HR Services Manager for the force and is leading on the implementation of a new HR shared service for the Force.
Sarah also undertakes the role of HR Systems Manager and, between 2002 and 2004, played a key role in the development and implementation of a bespoke, in-house HR System.
Sarah has a BA (Hons) degree in Religious Studies from Winchester and an MSc in Officer Systems from Northampton University.
