Barrie Kelly, Marketing and Communications Director, Cheshire & Warrington Tourist Board
Barrie Kelly, aged 36, joined CWTB on 16th August from his current position of Head of Marketing & Commercial Development at The Mersey Partnership - the economic development, investment and tourism body for Liverpool & Merseyside.
Born in Wigan and living in Chester , Barrie graduated from the University of Manchester in 1990 with a II:I BA (Hons) degree in Economics and in 1997 gained a CIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the University of Salford.
An experienced strategic marketer, Barrie began his career at Stowe Bowden Wilson (part of the McCann-Erickson group), a then top 5 advertising & marketing agency in Manchester and then progressed as Communications Director for The Data Protection Office in 1996. Throughout his career he has had an outstanding track record of success in both private and public sectors. This has been recognised within the industry with a number of prominent awards including a CIM SWOT Award for brand repositioning (1999), an IPA commendation for advertising effectiveness (1998) and most recently an award from England for Excellence for web site design (2003).
Barrie has two young children, Georgia and Ben. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys playing squash, 5-a-side football, working out at the gym and is an avid fan of Wigan Rugby League and Manchester United.

Emma Gray, Marketing and Communications Manager, Marketing Leeds
Emma Gray is a results-oriented marketing professional with a wide range of public and private sector marketing experience, specialising in branding and destination marketing.
During her current role at Marketing Leeds, the new public-private sector marketing agency for the city, Emma has been instrumental in researching, developing the 'Leeds, Live it, Love it' brand, and delivering it to both consumer and business markets. Prior to this, she worked for Leeds City Council's corporate communications team where she managed the development and implementation of the council's re-branding strategy.
Previous roles have included arts and events development and marketing both in Leeds and Birmingham and roles in commercial radio.

Simon Anholt, Editor, Place Branding Journal
Simon Anholt is regarded as the world's leading specialist in creating brand strategies for countries, cities and regions. He is the British Government's advisor on Public Diplomacy, and has advised the governments of Croatia, the Netherlands, Jamaica, Tanzania, Sweden, Botswana, Germany, the Baltic Sea Region, Bhutan, Ecuador, New Zealand, Switzerland and Slovenia, the United Nations, the World Bank and many other organisations.
He is a Parliamentarian of the European Cultural Parliament and Editor of the quarterly journal, Place Branding. His books include the best-seller Another One Bites The Grass; Brand New Justice, which deals with the role of brands in economic development, and Brand America, which charts the rise and fall of America's reputation. He is also a co-author of Beyond Branding, The Economist's Brands and Branding, Heritage and Identity and Destination Marketing.
He is the founder of the Anholt-GMI Nation Brands Index and the Anholt-GMI City Brands Index.

Malcolm Cowing, Managing Partner - Regeneration Marketing, Brahm Limited
Malcolm has over 25 years experience in marketing urban regeneration and property developments from concept to completion.
Amongst the many projects he has worked on includes Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield during its planning and lettings phases and more recently the acclaimed Clarence Dock residential development in Leeds. Currently he heads up the Brahm consultancy team of PR, advertising, research and events specialists to provide integrated marketing for the £1.5 billion regeneration of Bradford city centre for its client, Bradford Centre Regeneration. The £1.1 million 'birth of a new city' campaign, to win the hearts and minds of the community and encourage investment to the city, went public in autumn 2005.
Malcolm also heads up the consultancy's public consultation service entitled Inperspective which combines the consultancy's research and communications skills. Some of Brahm's other clients operating in this sector include Yorkshire Forward, Persimmon Homes, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Leeds City Council and Evans Property Group.

Dr Gary Warnaby,
University of Salford
Dr Gary Warnaby is a senior lecturer in marketing in the School of Management at the University of Salford. Before becoming an academic he worked in retail management with Bhs plc, and was in the Department of Retailing and Marketing at the Manchester Metropolitan University for ten years prior to taking up his current appointment. His main research interests relate to the marketing of places, with particular reference to the marketing of towns and cities as shopping destinations, and also town centre management. He has presented papers at a number of international conferences and has published articles in a wide range of academic and professional journals, as well as contributing to several books.

Ufi Ibrahim, Vice President of Corporate Development, World Travel and Tourism Council
Ufi Ibrahim joined the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in January 2000 and soon after took the position of Vice President, Development. Her remit was to formulate policies for global Travel & Tourism and commend these to governments worldwide. In October 2003, Ufi Ibrahim took on the additional role of Vice President, Corporate Development for the Council. Her new title includes responsibility for the membership of the Council, which comprises some 100 Chairman and Chief Executives of the world's foremost Travel & Tourism companies.
Prior to joining WTTC, Ufi Ibrahim spent five years with the American Express Company, where she took charge of immigration services for the company's extensive portfolio of corporate clients.

Stuart Mitchell, The Association of Relocation Professionals
Stuart is the Senior Partner of Business Moves Advisory Centre (BMAC) - an independent management consultancy providing strategic, project and policy advice to UK and overseas based employers considering, or engaged in, relocation. His experience spans over 25 years..
He formed his own company (Anchor Relocation) in the early 1970's which he developed and then sold to Lloyds Bank, where it was re-named Black Horse Relocation. As Managing Director Stuart developed Black Horse into the largest non-US relocation service supplier, with a turnover of £5.24 million and net profits of £2.14 million.
In 1989 he joined Runzheimer Inc (a US top 100 research and consulting firm as their Executive Vice President. Based in offices in both the US and London Stuart ran the Runzheimer worldwide research programme covering 360 cities in 77 countries.
In 1992 Stuart returned to the UK and established BMAC which now advises public and private sector employers on relocation strategy, feasibility studies, location analyses, site selection and/or acquisition, project planning and implementation
A frequent speaker at UK & overseas relocation conferences and seminars Stuart also contributes to a variety of relocation business magazines and professional journals and periodicals.

Martine Ainsworth-Wells, Marketing Director, Visit London
Martine Ainsworth-Wells is Marketing Director at Visit London, where she heads up Marketing - a team of 15, developing and promoting London as a visitor destination worldwide and Media - a team of 15 responsible for Visit London's 13 websites and digital applications.
Martine moved to London having completed an honours degree in Culture, Media and Communication, to join the launch team of Heart 106.2 - one of London's most listened to radio stations. She headed up the Sponsorship and Promotions division for 6 years before moving to do the same job at the Evening Standard. After a short break to travel around Australia and Asia, she returned to London and became a Director at specialist radio marketing and production agency USP in 2002. She was delighted, to get a chance to pursue her love of all things tourism and London, joining Visit London in January 2004.

Hugh West,
Former Vice-Chairman of The Chartered Institute of Marketing
Hugh West is a life-long marketer who has additionally been a CEO for over 24 years, having surprisingly passed his DipM in the swinging 60's. He subsequently, and gratefully, was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in 1998 and became an inaugural Chartered Marketer.
In the mid-80's he moved closer to Government, heading-up the Ministry of Defence's army, security, intelligence and chemical defence technology transfer activities, licensing technology ultimately to the value of over £18 million. This interest in technology marketing moved him to be CEO of London's only science park, South bank technopark, which created 70 high-tech start-ups generating £100 million of turnover.
The draw of high technology, linked with overseas investment, lead to him heading various UK inward investment and promotional agencies starting He reluctantly returned to the UK as a special advisor to the Government's DTI's British Trade International.
More recently he has been Managing Director of Croydon Marketing, promoting this exciting 'city', and introducing innovative town centre management, privately-run warden projects, developing the night-time economy and setting-up the exciting and successful Croydon Film.
He has written extensively on city and regional promotion, cultural marketing and in particular differentiation and is currently completing his PhD in this subject .

Tony Stanton, Chief Executive, an agency called england
Founder of an agency called england, Tony Stanton is a leading authority on the issues of regeneration at a local, regional, national and international level through his work with regeneration and inward investment clients.
As a specialist in city and region branding, Tony is an expert at producing sustainable identities that have resonance with identified target audiences.
Tony has developed various campaigns for clients, such as Marketing Leeds, and devised the brand Leeds. Live It. Love It. Tony has worked with Locate in Kent on enhancing awareness of the areas specific attributes and the Rotherham Investment and Development Office (RiDO).
First Wakefield and Hull City Image have also benefited from Tony's expertise as awareness campaigns have been developed for both, and england is currently working with Ashford to develop a brand identity that will raise the profile of the region.
Tony and england have also worked with the Thames Gateway South Essex Partnership to develop a brand for the region.
Having also worked with public sector clients such as Defra, DWP, Dfes, ODPM and the Learning and Skills Council, Tony is a popular speaker at events throughout Europe on the subject of brand strategy and destination marketing.
Tony recently chaired The British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) conference and was a key speaker at the Regeneration and Renewal event. He has also appeared on BBC Radio 4, providing expert comment on regeneration and re-branding projects taking place in the UK.

Douglas Clark, Director, Tenon Techlocate
Douglas is a development economist with over 20 years' consultancy experience in economic development in the UK and overseas. He has undertaken a wide range of studies relating to the economic development process, with particular focus on inward investment. He has gained particular experience in:

- Area development strategies
- Property market research
- Urban regeneration
- The creative industries
- The development of technology companies and locations
He has worked with national and regional development organisations, local authorities, area partnership initiatives, property developers, and inward investing companies.
Douglas has undertaken a wide range of consultancy studies including inward investment training; industry and cluster analysis; place auditing; competitor analysis and benchmarking; property development research; strategy formulation and action planning; development of marketing materials; and site search exercises for inward investors. His MSc in Urban Development from the University of Strathclyde included research in to place marketing for inward investment.

Dietmar Walter, Managing Director Europe, Global Market Insight (GMI)
Dietmar Walter is Managing Director - Europe for GMI, market leader of integrated solutions for Market Intelligence. He has significant experience in the market research industries. Prior to GMI, Dietmar has been a successful Global Account Manager for over 4 years with Gartner, the world leading IT Research Company. Dietmar brings a track record of building relationships with senior executives of blue chip organisations and of driving aggressive growth in research and consulting services year over year.
He has also been a Project Executive for Maritz Inc, a global marketing research firm specialising in integrated performance improvement and consumer market research services. As a Project Executive he was responsible for implementing and managing two major market intelligence projects for IBM in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
Dietmar is an Economics graduate of the University of Trento, Italy. He won a scholarship to conduct research at the University of Augsburg, Germany, about the restructuring and privatisation of Eastern German companies after the German reunification. Dietmar also holds an Executive MBA awarded with distinction from Oxford Brookes University. He has lived and worked in Italy, Germany and England and is fluent in German, Italian and English.
