Gambling Reform and Local Government
Implications for regeneration, licensing and the community
Wednesday, 1st March 2006

The new Gambling Act will be the first significant legal change in the UK industry since the 1960’s. This change brings protection for the public and encompasses new areas of gaming - including the internet and super casinos. Change under the new act will be immense. A new body, the Gambling Commission, will be created, providing a more uniform regulatory system. Local authorities are to be given greater responsibilities including powers to license gambling premises and decide whether new casinos should be allowed in the area.

This timely conference will examine key issues for licensing authorities including regeneration, problem gambling, legal trends and what methods should be used when considering applications. The conference will also provide a unique forum for local authority and gambling professionals to meet and exchange views.
