This forum looked at strategic collaboration between food manufacturers and retailers and the wider supply network, building on the human processes and organisational change issues, strategic choices and the resulting work-process and systems requirements.

Collaboration between manufacturers and retailers is a key issue for senior managers in the food and drink sector. These managers have a growing appreciation of the strategic importance of the issue and a growing awareness of the need to change and adapt, but there is no clear consensus on best-practice or vision for the future.

The context is a competitive business environment where UK retailers are focussed on cost reduction and customer service and where manufacturers need to re-engineer and engage to meet their customer needs in demand management, supply network co-ordination and product development - while delivering margin improvement and bottom-line benefits for their own shareholders.

This forum took place on 17th November 2004 at the CBI Conference Centre, Centre Point, 103 new Oxford Street, London, WC1A 1DU

The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) represents the UK food and drink manufacturing industry, the largest manufacturing sector in the UK. We help these manufacturers operate in an appropriately regulated marketplace, to maximise their competitiveness. We communicate our industry's values and concerns to a range of audiences in the UK and abroad, including to Government, regulators, consumers and the media. We work in partnership with other main players in the food chain to help ensure our food is safe and that consumers can have confidence in it. Our members are food and drink manufacturing companies, large and small, and trade associations dealing with specific food and drink sectors.

The Society runs a variety of events, publishes pamphlets, a Members' newsletter, SOFHT Focus magazine, and provides a telephone helpline service. SOFHT Options in Training provides solutions to industry's training needs. The membership includes a cross-section of people from food organisations and their suppliers and is open to those who have an interest in food safety and hygiene.
